Mathias Nygård (vocals) on “For Your Own Good”: “‘Turisas2013’ is a very diverse album: it has some of the heaviest and fastest tracks that we’ve ever done, but ‘For Your Own Good’ comes more from the lighter end. It’s a very catchy song and we hope you’ll enjoy the track that we picked to give you a very first taste of the many flavours to come.”

“Turisas2013” is scheduled for a release on August 23 in Finland/Germany/Austria/Switzerland and August 26 in Europe while UK will follow up September 2 and North America September 3.

Yet again the album was produced by vocalist Mathias Nygård and the majority of the album recorded by Nygård and guitarist Jussi Wickström in a remote house outside of Helsinki that worked as the “Turisas2013” command centre and headquarter. Additional recordings were done in 3 other studios: the drums at Atomic Spa Studio and orchestral recordings at 5 by 5 Studio, both in Helsinki. A lot of vocals and numerous additional elements were tracked at Sound Supreme Studio in Hämeenlinna where TURISAS also recorded “The Varangian Way” and “Stand Up And Fight”. The mix and mastering was done in London at Orgone Studios with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost B.C., Cathedral, Primordial, Ulver).

While the band is playing selected festivals during the summer season the release of “Turisas2013” will be supported by extensive European touring: after joining the Heidenfest 2013 they will play a UK headlining run.

Turisas’ new album “Turisas2013” is scheduled for a release August 26 in Europe. UK will follow September 2 and North America September 3.

Yet again the album was produced by vocalist Mathias Nygård and the majority of the album recorded by Mathias Nygård and guitarist Jussi Wickström in a remote house outside of Helsinki that worked as the “Turisas2013” command centre and head quarter. Additional recordings were done in 3 other studios: the drums at Atomic Spa Studio and orchestral recordings at 5 by 5 Studio, both in Helsinki. A lot of vocals and numerous additional acoustic elements were recorded at Sound Supreme Studio in Hämeenlinna where TURISAS also recorded “The Varangian Way” and “Stand Up And Fight”.

With “Turisas2013” the band deliberately aimed for a more organic sound, Mathias “Warlord” Nygård further comments: “When it comes to the production it’s just the opposite of the polished and massive ‘Stand Up And Fight’. It’s raw and dry and in your face, but still maintaining that TURISAS-largeness. People attest us that we are a great live band and we wanted the album to be based more around that than orchestral massiveness. It’s our most varied record to date and even if some of the songs sound very different, I think the common thread is that every single one has a lot of energy to it.”

The mix and mastering was done by London based producer Jaime Gomez Arellano who previously worked with Ghost, Primodial and Ulver, just to name a few.

While the band will be playing selected festivals during the summer season the release of “Turisas2013” will be supported by extensive European touring and TURISAS joining the Heidenfest 2013.

Having just torn Download Festival a new one, Turisas will return to British shores again in October. Along with revealing the artwork for their new album, the band has just announced none less than five headline dates in the UK.

The band will play five gigs between 8-12 October in support of their new album ”Turisas2013”, released in September.

Band leader Mathias ”Warlord” Nygard couldn’t be happier about the upcoming raid to the British breweries:

Das Heidenfest hat sich in den letzten Jahren zur absoluten Tour-Instanz gemausert, was Top-Acts in Sachen Heathen / Viking Metal und generell Schlachtgesängen von partytauglich bis martialisch angeht!

Und so liest sich auch das Line Up anno 2013 wie der ultimative Wunschzettel eines jeden Metal-Kriegers:

Als Headliner konnte niemand geringeres als die finnischen Viking- bzw. Folk Metaller von ENSIFERUM verpflichtet werden! Zuletzt veröffentlichten die schwermetallischen Trinkhorn-Stemmer das Epos “Unsung heroes“ 2012. Ihnen zur Seite stehen die Landsmänner von TURISAS, die derzeit im Studio ein neues Album eintrümmern und schon mal die rot-schwarze Kriegsbemalung auspacken!

Die Deutschen EQUILIBRIUM darf man gut und gerne als Stars der Pagan Metal-Szene titulieren: mit Eingängigkeit und Heaviness haben sie bisher noch jeden Club in Schutt und Asche gelegt! Auch hier wird
gerade ein neues Album aus der Taufe gehoben. SUIDAKRA mixen Melodie, Death Metal und folkloristische Elemente zu gleichen Teilen – „Eternal defiance“ wird Ende Mai 2013 erscheinen.
